My background

I was born and bred in rural Sussex, where my family still live. Drawing and painting have always been an essential part of my life, something as necessary to me as reading a book is to other people. Although I studied Fine Art at school, a lack of confidence made me decide on History of Art for my B.A. Hons. After University I moved to London and ran an art gallery.  Throughout this time I took classes in life drawing and the discipline of these classes kept me going until I had time to study in more depth.

In 1989 my husband and I moved to very rural Northumberland to live at his family home in Whitfield. When our children were old enough for school,  I took up adult art classes and found an inspiring teacher who helped me regain my confidence.  Gradually, as my family has grown up,  I have been able to spend more and more time in my wonderful studio, a truly inspiring place in which to work.  The Whitfield Estate is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and my studio looks out over a particularly special part of it - The Monk Wood - which once formed part of the ancient Caledonian Forest, covering most of Northern England and Scotland.
